A Letter from Fresh Start Private's Co-Founder-January 2011

I have personally experienced the hell of alcoholism. My fiancée* Diedre battled alcohol addiction for approximately 14 years. During that time, her drinking took an enormous toll on our family and our relationship. Her disease drove Diedre and I to the point where we had actually ended our relationship, leaving me resigned to moving on with my life without her. Then, when all seemed lost, thankfully we found the life-saving procedure developed by Dr. George O'Neil. We are now planning our upcoming wedding and now enjoy every day that we have together with our son as a close and loving family unit.

In looking back on our battle - and I say our battle because alcoholism doesn't just devastate the alcoholic, it devastates everyone and everything around the alcoholic - our greatest regret is that we did not find Dr. O'Neil much sooner. Over the years we had wasted so much time and effort on undertaking programs that failed us time and again. We tried every treatment program available to us without success. Nothing was able to help her stop drinking and remain sober for an extended period. We began to fear that we would never conquer this horrible disease. In desperation we continued to try anything that we thought might have had the slightest chance of helping us, although we grew less and less optimistic as each failed program. We felt desperate and defeated.

Then by a stroke of luck I ran into an old friend who had heard about Dr. O'Neil and his success in treating alcoholism. Although I was very skeptical at first, I had nothing to lose and was willing to take one last chance at finding help for the woman I love.

It was miraculous. From the moment Diedre received Dr. O'Neil's implant**, she was a different woman. She simply did not have the desire or craving to drink. We found it hard to believe that she could so quickly go from an uncontrollable alcoholic to not wanting a drink at all. During the first few days after the implant, I continued to watch Diedre carefully, expecting that she would revert back to drinking as she had every time before. To my surprise, this didn't happen. Day after day passed and remarkably she remained sober. She said she felt really well and strong and was completely free from the desire to have a drink.

Dr. O'Neil and his naltrexone implant were an absolute godsend for Diedre and me. The implant's constant delivery of naltrexone to Diedre's body completely eliminated her physical cravings. This was so critical because it provided us an opportunity to focus on dealing with the mental, emotional and spiritual issues that contributed to her alcoholism without the burden of her still wanting a drink. Without the implant's elimination of her cravings, we would not have had the freedom to fully concentrate on these other important areas. The implant was the key to Diedre's recovery and we now celebrate the freedom it provided us every single day. Without this type of medical intervention, no other program offered a chance of success. Fortunately for us, we found Dr. O'Neil and were able to get Diedre the kind of help she had desperately needed for such a long time.

As someone who has lived with alcoholism, I know the depths to which alcoholics and their family and friends fall.
